Edwards Lifesciences Designer, Engineering in Salt Lake City, Utah
The Designer will work with key stakeholders to develop and transform engineering specifications to finished CAD designs for manufacturing and products, including equipment, tooling/fixtures, detailed assembly drawings, and part drawings. They will advise engineering on geometric dimension and tolerance, critical dimensions of the design, and alert the engineers to potential issues with regard to the fabrication process. In addition, they will source, assemble, test and deliver production ready equipment, tooling and fixtures as required.
Essential job functions include:
Create new designs utilizing parametric solid modeling software or applications to develop basic data, assemblies and detailed parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures, assess viability of engineering specifications/concepts including advising engineers on suggested revisions on designs.
Design complex equipment, tooling, fixtures or products, incorporating ease of manufacturing, safety, performance, and reliability; and selecting equipment and materials, contractual specification requirements and cost; including recommending alternates and solutions needed to achieve the intended design objective. Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers throughout the validation process including redline reviews.
Process Engineering Change Requests (ECR) including describing changes and providing corresponding technical justification; checking completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications; and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning and notes necessary to present design proposals.
Perform outside vendor management/project management for design and fabrication activities of equipment, tooling and fixtures.
Develop and lead design reviews with cross-functional project stakeholders.
Consult with and provide input to Engineers on Edwards drawing standards and CAD tools, maintaining integrity of the CAD PDM (Product Data Management) modeling software.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Associate's Degree or equivalent with 8 years of design experience.
Advanced ability to utilize 3D CAD software.
Proven expertise in usage of Solidworks or CREO and MS Office Suite; experience with Windchill PLM
Experience with tooling and fixture design for a manufacturing environment; equipment design including electro-mechanical and pneumatic experience
Experience reading, interpreting, and creating engineering and product drawings following ASME Y14.5M-1994 drawing standards
Full understanding of CAD design principles, techniques and procedures including parametric solid models
Understanding of fabrication processes (e.g machining, molding) to leverage in creating and evaluating design
Good understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) concepts and principles
Problem solving methodology, tolerance analysis, and GDP (Good Documentation Practices)
Ability to read, comprehend, write, and speak English
Must have the ability to build productive internal/external working relationships including; excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills and the ability to work in an inter-departmental and project team environment
