Edwards Lifesciences Staff Engineer, Human Factors -Advanced Technology in Irvine, California
This is an outstanding opportunity to champion and support human factors and usability engineering activities with new product development and commercial teams across projects and business units. This is a high visibility and high impact career opportunity.
Collaborate with clinical affairs, quality, regulatory, marketing, and R&D functions from multiple project teams to develop best practices in human factors and usability engineering and to ensure compliance with internal procedures and external regulations and expectations.
Find opportunities to improve product usability by engaging with clinicians and other device users to collect user feedback (both objective and subjective) on devices.
Support patient-first corporate strategy by applying knowledge of human factors engineering requirements and best practices to achieve device and system clinical success and minimize risk associated with human use.
Influence and engage business unit and project team leadership to support human factors and usability engineering activities early in the product development process.
Apply knowledge of device users and use environments and engineering knowledge to design and development of new products and product changes.
Support planning and executing usability research and evaluations, as well as usability engineering process deliverables (plans, protocols, reports, team debriefs, etc).
Maintain current knowledge of human factors and usability regulations, expectations, and standard methodologies.
Help develop and facilitate internal human factors and usability engineering training courses.
Some domestic and international travel (up to 5%).
Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of experience OR a Master's degree with 4 years’ experience OR a PhD with 3 years’ experience
Suitable undergraduate and/or graduate degrees include human factors engineering, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related engineering subject area
Effective communication, listening, and diagnostic skills are required to interface with health care professionals and team members from various departments.
Leadership-facing experience a must.
Strong documentation and interpersonal skills are required.
Must be a highly motivated self-starter able to achieve results independently and through cross-functional teamwork.
Must be proactive and creative in solving technical problems.
Human factors / usability engineering experience is required.
Experience in the medical device or other highly regulated industry is required.
Clinical experience with medical implantable devices is highly desirable.
