Edwards Lifesciences Staff Electrical Engineer – Critical Care in Irvine, California

This position will support Critical Care Instrumentation Electronic Hardware value engineering and lifecycle engineering.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with internal and external resources to execute designs to reduce cost, complexity, while maintaining reliability of existing electronics product portfolio.

  • Represent value engineering within the Critical Care Electronics organization.

  • Responsible for applying electrical engineering and product development experience to further the development for minimally invasive critical care patient monitoring products.

  • Performing sustaining R&D work and feasibility of product design/lifecycle changes, analyzing data, drawing conclusions and preparing final reports and presentations.

  • Developing product requirements and test system designs, management of external electronic development partners, agency testing support for Emissions, Safety and other required testing, troubleshooting field issues, and providing input/support for medical device design control deliverables.

  • Travel up to 20% of the time.

  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in engineering

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or scientific.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree is preferred.

  • Applied experience in analog/digital electronic circuits design.

  • Strong emphasis on Electrical Engineering with a broad multi-disciplinary R&D experience in development of analog, digital and mixed electronic circuits, optoelectronics, sensors and front-end signal conditioning circuits for medical device and biomedical applications.

  • Experience with analog sensors such as sensors to measure temperature, pressure, flow, etc.

  • Proficient with EE design tools: Tools for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) development, such as Altium.

  • Experience in analog, digital and mixed circuit simulation and modeling (with for example PSPICE and other similar software packages).

  • Experience with embedded systems.

  • Experience with microcontrollers (FPGAs/CPLDs is a plus).

  • Experience in signal processing for noise cancelation and signal conditioning.

  • Hands-on system and subsystem level troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with experience using DVM, Oscilloscopes, Function Generators and etc.

  • Experience in medical device product development and designing for and testing to Regulatory standards such as IEC/EN60601-1 and IEC/EN60601-1-2, 3rd/4th edition etc.

  • Excellent documentation, presentation, and communication skills.

  • Experience in writing requirements, design documentation, test protocols, test reports.

  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter who is able to achieve results with minimal direction.

  • Experience in design for value, cost reduction, and manufacturability.

  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels and external vendors.

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence change.
