Edwards Lifesciences Sr R&D Technologist -Transcatheter Mitral and Tricuspid Therapies in Irvine, California

This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Sr. R&D Technologist professional with significant experience to join a team that is boldly designing transcatheter mitral and tricuspid therapies from the ground up. TMTT is dedicated to solving the complex challenges of mitral and tricuspid disease in order to transform treatment and significantly improve patients’ lives. This unique role will be focused on the design, development, and implementation for the future generation of tricuspid valve replacement systems. In this position, you will be an integral contributor to the design, evaluation, and preparation for the clinical use of future device platforms (implants, delivery systems, and/or accessories).

Job responsibilities of an R&D Sr. Technician include but are not limited to:

  • Functioning as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) with in-depth knowledge and technical proficiency in support of the widest range of engineering activities such as test, modification, fabrication and assembly; including identifying potential improvement opportunities and proposing technical solutions to optimize products, processes, and/or equipment

  • Building complex prototypes, sub-assemblies, and prepare feasibility test units, samples, and/or chemical solutions; may include making material recommendations. May build prototypes for physician demonstration

  • Operating a wide range of lab equipment including set-up, clean-up, break-down, and re-assembly. Performing operational test and identifying failure modes on systems and equipment and proposing and implementing technical solutions

  • Collecting, documenting, and analyzing test data. May initiate ECRs (Engineering Change Request)

  • Training, coaching, and guiding lower level employees on new procedures, assessing work techniques and providing feedback to engineers on procedures

  • Designing and building fixtures as well as delivery system components/and or sub-assemblies; using sketches, CAD, etc. May create and modify drawings and procedures for fixtures, equipment, products, or processes

  • Performing test method development and validation for equipment and product designs

Qualifications:

  • The Technologist requires a minimum an Associate’s Degree or equivalent and 8 years of related experience or 10 years of related experience.

  • A High School Diploma is required.

Experience to include the following:

  • Must be highly motivated, passionate, and able to tackle challenging technical problems

  • Candidate must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision

  • Candidate must have a strong mechanical aptitude and flexibility to work in a dynamic work environment

  • Catheter prototyping and development experience is a must

  • Experience in device testing and evaluation is a must

  • Basic machine shop skills are a plus (mill, lathe, laser welding)

  • Solidworks experience is a huge plus
