Edwards Lifesciences Senior Supervisor, Manufacturing in Irvine, California

The Senior Supervisor will manage projects and product lines in pilot manufacturing and/or commercial production with direct supervision of 10 - 40 hourly production employees and manufacturing specialists. Product lines / areas range from catheter based delivery systems and accessory products, balloons, extrusions, part cleaning, part receiving inspection, and product packaging.

Responsibilities will include effective planning, organization, control and supervision of the manufacturing process. The candidate will work closely with new product development teams on engineering, clinical, and production builds. They will partner effectively with Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Assurance to monitor department quality and support corrective actions. He or She will champion change management throughout the manufacturing process and will drive the incorporation of technical advancements with an emphasis on culture grounded in mistake-proofing, continuous improvement, compliance to procedure, lean / 5S principles.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Set department goals/expectations and provide performance feedback to employees

  • Conduct department training to ensure proper staffing levels

  • Achieve production line objectives measured by P vs A, yield, cost, quality, and labor

  • Provide a safe work area

  • Ensure compliance to regulations (FDA, OSHA, etc.) and compliance to manufacturing procedures

  • Ensure that area spending is within budgeted amounts

  • Lead daily production line meetings with support staff (engineers, planning, quality); prioritize projects; organize the efforts of the support team; facilitate resolution of issues

  • Participate in Material Review Boards (MRB) for production disposition

Required Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in a technical discipline (engineering, math, or science) is highly preferred.

  • A minimum of four years’ experience supervising in a highly regulated manufacturing environment is required. Medical device manufacturing experience is highly preferred.

  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing concepts and/or catheter manufacturing is required. Experience in a pilot manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment is key.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Results orientation, accountability, and project ownership.

  • Prefer strong hands-on skills with proven ability to apply technical knowledge and judgment to complex technical problems along with leading small project teams.

  • Requires excellent communication skills, direct and to-the-point(written and spoken), and possess strong capabilities in managing, coaching and training talent.

  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements.

  • Ability to establish a culture of positive reinforcement along with being comfortable administering discipline when required.
