Edwards Lifesciences Senior Manager, R&D Engineering - Transcatheter Heart Valve in Irvine, California
Edwards Lifesciences is looking for a Senior Manager, Engineering to lead an R&D team pioneering next-generation balloon technology in support of our balloon expandable transcatheter heart valve replacement platforms. This position will support product development efforts in our aortic, pulmonic, and mitral valve replacement devices as well as develop new balloon technologies to address the anticipated needs of future applications. This team is responsible for the balloon development cycle from concept through design verification and then providing technical support to balloons manufacturing.
Partner with the product R&D/NPD teams to translate finished device requirements to the balloon component level
Survey emerging technologies in the balloons and polymer science space and explore novel applications to support company strategic goals
Identify practical ways to apply new balloon/polymer technologies to improve current and next generation products
Develop and execute a long-term strategy for examining new designs, materials, processing methods for next-generation product concepts
Work with clinical partners to continuously develop/improve test methods to better predict balloon performance in the clinical environment
Promote knowledge sharing within the team and across teams/functions; actively develop engineering talent and acknowledge good work
Represent the Balloons R&D team to other internal technical partners as well as to business unit senior leadership
Develop, communicate, and execute the strategy for the technical team to solve complex technical issues
Partner with manufacturing sites to develop new/improved/optimized process technology
Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science or other relevant engineering/technical degree
10+ year of professional experience in the medical device industry
5+ years of experience in polymer product development including experience with balloon blow molding
3+ years of experience in a technical management role
Proven track record in technology development and/or early-stage R&D; capable of articulating a strategy for progressing towards a loosely defined research goal
Proven successful project leadership skills
