Edwards Lifesciences Senior Engineer Critical Care Discovery in Irvine, California
The Senior Engineer position is a unique opportunity for the right creative, curious and entrepreneurial technical individual. Join an early stage research and development group exploring new or poorly met clinical needs and related technologies in the Critical Care space. We work closely with clinicians and external research partners and team up with Business Development and Marketing as we together create the future direction of our Critical Care business. As a member of this small, highly motivated team you must be comfortable with ambiguity and a fast pace but your initiative, ingenuity and impact will be immediately recognized.
Responsibilities:
Key technical role in early stage technology proof of concept projects.
Develop and utilize quantitative models of both sensor and biological systems to develop and assess new technologies; analyze results, make recommendations, and develop reports
Develop complex experiments and tests (including writing and executing protocols) to demonstrate and assess new technologies; analyze results, make recommendations, and develop reports
Brainstorm, synthesize and analyze concepts either generated internally or through evaluation of external innovation and opportunities
Partner with Strategy and Marketing partners on areas of interest
Work closely with clinicians to understand needs, gather relevant feedback for concepts and methods and perform benchtop and animal testing of early phase concepts
Learn and build knowledge of competitive technologies as well as medical and biomedical developments related to our areas of focus in Critical Care
Present results and strategies to executive team and partnering physicians
Take concepts from needs definition to first human use
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Scientific field with 4+ years of relevant experience is required - OR a Master’s degree in an Engineering or Scientific field with 3+ years of relevant experience is required - OR a PhD in an Engineering or Scientific field is required.
Strong documentation, communication (e.g., written and verbal) and interpersonal relationship skills including consultative and relationship management skills
Strong understanding of statistical techniques
Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment; comfort with ambiguity
Must be able to work in a team environment, including inter-departmental teams and key contact representing the organization on contracts or projects
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Electrical Engineering with hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design, PCB layout, FR and near field communication is strongly desired
Strong experience with data analysis in MATLAB or similar is desirable
Start-up experience preferred
Knowledge of applicable FDA regulations for medical device industry desirable
