Edwards Lifesciences R&D Technologist - Transcatheter Mitral & Tricuspid Therapies in Irvine, California
This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional R&D Technologist with advanced catheter experience to join a team that is boldly designing transcatheter mitral and tricuspid therapies (TMTT) from the ground up. TMTT is dedicated to solving the complex challenges of mitral and tricuspid disease in order to transform treatment and significantly improve patients’ lives.
This Irvine-based role is an opportunity to join a fast-paced and passionately patient-focused team as a key-contributor in the design and development of a transcatheter mitral valve replacement delivery system and accessories, from concept selection to early human use to pivotal trial readiness. A strong candidate will be hands-on with prior catheter experience and has experience in successfully solving challenging problems. This position will report into a Sr. Manager of R&D for Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR) delivery systems.

Apply technical skills in supporting a wide range of engineering activities, such as test, modification, prototype fabrication and assembly; including identifying potential improvement opportunities and proposing technical solutions to optimize products, processes, and/or equipment
Build complex prototypes, sub-assemblies, and prepare feasibility test units, samples, and/or chemical solutions; may include making material recommendations. May build prototypes for physician demonstration.
Operate a wide range of lab equipment including set-up, clean-up, break-down, and re-assembly.
Perform operational test and identifying failure modes on systems and equipment and proposing and implementing technical solutions
Collect, document, and analyze test data.
Training, coaching, and guiding lower level employees on new procedures, assessing work techniques, and providing feedback to engineers on procedures.
Design and build fixtures as well as delivery system components/and or subassemblies; using sketches, CAD, etc. May create and modify drawings and procedures for fixtures, equipment, products, or processes.
Performing test method development and validation for equipment and product designs.
Maintain a lab environment and take ownership of specific equipment.
Required Education and Experience:
A High School Diploma + 6 or more years of experience OR an Associates + 4 or more years of experience
Strong mechanical aptitude and experience in catheter assembly is required.
Technical depth and prototyping experience in catheter design and process (extrusions, braiding, coiling, molding, reflow, and bonding processes) is required.
Expertise in using 3D modeling software is preferred. Solidworks is a plus
Must be highly motivated, passionate, and able to tackle challenging technical problems in a dynamic environment.
Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision and as a member of a team is essential.
Hands-on approach required with a willingness to prototype and build new designs.
Demonstrates a sense of urgency; understands the importance of outperforming and outpacing the competition in meeting customer and patient needs.
Basic machine shop skills are preferred (mill, lathe, laser welding).
Experience with tube drawing, laser cutting, and laser welding processes is preferred.
Ability to work with suppliers on development of new components and device troubleshooting.
Experience in device testing and evaluation is preferred.
Previous experience working with lab/industrial equipment desired.
