Edwards Lifesciences R&D Engineer II - Advanced Technology in Irvine, California

This is an exciting opportunity to join Edwards Lifesciences Advanced Technology business unit to work with a dedicated team focused on the development and expansion of our new engineering center of excellence focused on the clinical success and user experience of the transcatheter structural heart devices. In this role, the engineer will be collaborating with other engineers on designing a complex benchtop models for the purpose of physician training and device use experience simulation. This is a highly visible position and has potential career growth opportunities working side by side with leading experts in this field.

  • Support R&D’s goals by participating on the new benchtop model development

  • Interface with other engineers in various teams to gather input for design and development of new bench top models. Utilize advanced knowledge of design and development to advance innovation and come up with solutions that satisfy company needs.

  • Must be able to work with Cadaver and animal tissue after proper training.

  • Work closely with project team members, internal partners in the Regulatory, Quality, Manufacturing and other departments to deliver project objectives.

  • Some domestic and international travel (up to 10%).

  • Prepare test protocols and technical reports which summarize data and provide the team with insightful analysis of results from experimentation.

  • Testing includes, but is not limited to, in-vivo animal studies, simulated physiological hydrodynamic pulsatile testing, steady state hydraulic testing, and cadaver studies.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering; mechanical or biomedical is preferred plus 2 years experience.

  • Familiar with 3D modeling: CREO, Solidwords and/or AutoCAD.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including hands-on skills with proven ability to apply technical knowledge and judgment to complex technical problems is required.

  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

  • Previously working with human tissue and handling cadaver hearts is a plus

  • Ability to solve technical problems as well as identify and implement practical solutions based on device requirements and project timelines.
