Edwards Lifesciences Mgr, Business Solutions (Model Based Definition) in Irvine, California
Edwards Lifesciences is embarking on a multi-year digital transformation journey. The Manager, Business Solutions - Model Based Definition (MBD) will lead the incremental evolution toward fully utilizing CAD MBD at Edwards. Will partner with leaders, users, R&D, Global Supply Chain, IT, Quality, and Regulatory Affairs in executing the MBD portion of the projects on this digital transformation journey. Scope includes business process engineering, technology implementation (e.g. CAD, PLM, manufacturing equipment, etc.) and organizational change management (such as education, communications, socialization (at user and leadership levels) for the MBD portions of this initiative, as well as organization design to create and sustain MBD culture and mindset.
Facilitates moving Edwards organization, culture, and processes to MBD eventually moving towards Model Based Enterprise. Oversee the creation and optimization of the MBD process. Responsible for increasing EW skills and processes to a higher level on the MBD/E maturity level scale.
Acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in business processes that incorporate the following information in MBD:
Displaying design intent, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), functional tolerance annotation (FTA), component level materials, assembly level bills of materials, and engineering configurations
Creates specific Edwards business case for MBD:
Conducts MBD gap assessment of Edwards current state to standards
Identifies tasks and data used by consumers of Edwards 2D drawings throughout the product life cycle.
Identifies standards and minimum information model needed for the consumers of the 3D Model
Defines the presentation for effective communication of that information to the consumer.
Defines specific MBD future state and roadmap to align with digital transformation journey
Evaluates best technologies needed to implement MBD successfully
Identifies business value of closing those gaps and achieving MBD
Scopes solutions needed to achieve future state (processes, automation, money, & organization structure needed).
Develops and integrates metrics that clearly demonstrate value of MBD to the business
Develops and establishes MBD data (3D digital dataset and templates) & procedures across the company.
Owns standards & processes for MBD throughout the product lifecycle and digital thread.
Provides Organization Change Management support.
Provides quantitative view of the organization maturity in the underlying practices, technologies and components associated with MBE.
Educates/trains R&D, IT, Operations, and Quality on MBD at user and mid-management level.
Defines goals for MBD and socialize acceptance of those goals.
Establishes governance team of in R&D across business units
Establishes core team of MBD subject matter experts in the company
Leads the development of MBD process solutions by leading stakeholder meetings and workshops to gather and collaborate on improvements and suggestions
Trains-the-trainer, coaches, and guides: engineers, designers, drafters to new established standards and processes
Presents on MBD in industry forums like PLM Conferences, INCOSE, etc
Bachelor's Degree, 10 years of experience with CAD Models, 5 years of related MBD technical experience are required.
Technical experience and business processes improvement for MBD required

Additional Required Skills:
Preference given to knowledge Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing best practices and how GDT can be leveraged for MBD
3D annotation best practices
Data definition, part families, validation of CAD data and derivatives
Proven ability in leading and implementing MBD at a company moving towards Model Base Enterprise
Proven expertise in process development for MBD
Proven successful project management and leadership skills
Proven expertise in creating, analyzing, trending, and presenting process metrics related to the implementation of MBD
Strong leadership skills, ability to influence change, and align diverse groups of stakeholders like R&D/Sustaining engineers, designers, CAD Management, PLM business solution leaders, & IT Master Data Management.
Excellent interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills with ability to drive achievement of objectives
Familiar with Master Data Management
Ability to translate technical information from technical level to manager & directors.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills
Business process improvement methodologies like Process Excellence or LEAN
Expert understanding of related aspects of processes and/or systems with CAD and PLM. Current with latest CAD & PLM platform features
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and related tools and systems, including remote collaboration tools like MS Teams.
Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Knowledge of the following tools: CAD, PLM- Previous experience working with PLM tools (E.g. PTC Windchill, Siemens Teamcenter UA, or Dassault)
