About this role
The Advanced Technology (AT) group at Edwards incubates and explores world-class early- stage innovations for under-served patients with Structural Heart Disease. The Manager, Strategy role will drive the "where to play" and “how to win” decisions for novel disease areas, patient populations, and product modalities. These are the decisions that will guide the next wave of innovation at Edwards and hence, shape the global landscape of Structural Heart Disease affecting the lives of millions of patients. You will be working in a small, driven team that always “goes first” in the pursuit of tackling these difficult, ambiguous, but exciting and important problems.
Your key responsibilities:
· Own and drive strategic decisions that guide Edwards’ innovation in Structural Heart Disease:
o Conduct deep and rigorous clinical and market analysis via scientific literature, conference materials, clinical trials, competitive landscapes, GHER
o Interview KOLs and HCPs to clinically substantiate the analysis by understanding their view on disease mechanisms, patient need / segmentation, standard of care, referral pathways, and novel solutions
o Generate nuanced implications to move the needle and influence the business towards a recommendation
o Synthesize findings and recommendation in a coherent and thoughtful manner (typically PowerPoint) and present them to senior leadership and cross-functional teams
· Build the AT and Edwards-wide vision for novel disease areas and patient pathway landscapes five to ten years in the future
· Play an active role in the annual strategic planning process through close collaboration with Advanced Technology Senior Leadership (VP and CVP):
o Develop the story through slides and data that convey our strategy to Edwards Executive Leadership and Board of Directors
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent in in a scientific, technical, quantitative or Finance (FP&A)
Bachelor’s degree in scientific / technical field and 10 years of previous related experience OR
Master’s degree in related field, 8 years of previous related experience
5 years years experience direct experience in strategy, management consulting, business development, or marketing and sales required Required
· Strongly preferred:
o PhD or MD or MBA
o 2 years+ life sciences strategy consulting experience in a top-tier firm OR 3 years+ in a strategy / upstream marketing / business development role at an innovation-focused life sciences company
· Clinical acumen (e.g., comfort with disease and therapy mechanisms, standard-of-care, patient needs, clinical trials)
· Market acumen (e.g., comfort with market sizing, competitive landscapes, value and reimbursement, patient pathways)
o Incredible work ethic to quickly problem solve, simplify and bring data-driven clarity to complex clinical and market questions, based on rigorous analysis
o Well-developed synthesis and storytelling skills to efficiently communicate findings and recommendations via PowerPoint
o Curiosity and drive to tackle important, but ambiguous problems in structural heart disease
o Humility to learn and an attitude to make people around you smarter
· Success in constrained circumstances:
o Ability to thrive in ambiguity to make strategic recommendations
o Ability to pivot and manage competing priorities as internal or external conditions change
