Edwards Lifesciences Manager, Metrology Operations in Irvine, California

The Manager, Metrology Operations will manage a team and outside vendors for the Metrology department. As the Manager you will ensure smooth and continuous operations for assets onsite in the Irvine Plant. This includes day-to-day calibration support, completion of OOTs, PM’s and asset induction in our PLM system.

In this role you will:

  • Manage technicians, contractors, vendors and oversee the work of Metrology department functions. Additionally, you will be responsible for the overall staff morale and culture.

  • Lead Metrology department in support of day-to-day operations including safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

  • Ensure on time completion of asset calibration and Preventive Maintenance to meet current and future asset induction requirements.

  • Support roll-out of Maximo implementation across Irvine and valve network sites.

  • Lead and support management of calibration suppliers to ensure assets are calibrated on time and to specification. Provide adequate risk mitigation of suppliers.

  • Support incoming asset induction to ensure successful integration into Edwards PLM systems – Blue Mountain and Maximo.

  • Generate, review, analyze and report on Quality Metrics is a key function of this role.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


  • Bachelor's in engineering or science.

  • 10 years of manufacturing engineering experience, with 5+ years of people management experience, within a regulated environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Medical device manufacturing experience is highly preferred.

  • Experience managing engineering or metrology department is required.

  • Experience with asset management software Blue Mountain and Maximo or related software is preferred.

  • Proven successful project management leadership skills.

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills with ability to drive achievement of objectives. Able to author Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).

  • Strong understanding of instrumentation, engineering procedures and processes while looking beyond existing methodologies and own discipline to define and resolve complex problems.

  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.

  • Knowledge of financial acumen as it relates to the business.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage one or more teams and provide coaching and feedback, including responsibility for all employee actions including hire/fire authority and partnering with HR on all aspects of employee relations.

  • Ability to develop and integrate metrics into the projects and operations that clearly demonstrate the value of the team to the business.

  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels and proactively escalate issues to appropriate levels of management in the organization.

  • Ability to work and excel within a fast paced, dynamic, and constantly changing work environment.

  • Proven expertise in both Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing systems.
