Edwards Lifesciences Manager, Business Solutions (Systems Admin) in Irvine, California

Responsible for managing a team and leading the maintenance of the Global Finance applications, as well functional leadership for projects, upgrades and releases including defining, documenting, and driving efforts to maintain maximum performance, uptime, and reliability of applications and systems. Qualified candidates will have the ability to balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, while creating an environment that motivates, inspires, and respects others. This position requires high organization and planning skills; along with an eye for detail. The Manager must possess strong communication skills and have the ability to work both independently and within a team. This position will report into the Senior Manager Global Finance, Business Process Innovation and Technology Strategy, Automation

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the work of system administrators and may indirectly manage cross functional or matrix teams as appropriate. Develop a robust talent development plan in alignment with functional growth strategies of the department

  • Day to day ownership of operations and production support:

  • Making recommendations on application, system or process enhancements to better meet business goals and objectives

  • Assuming project management responsibilities for smaller releases and enhancement projects and working closely with engineering teams in identifying and resolving production issues escalated by our production support team

  • Proactively and independently researching opportunities for innovation in technology, methodology, quality assurance, support, business, and other applicable areas across multiple capabilities and/or products

  • Understand business needs across functional areas and apply industry trends, products and solutions to solve business problems

  • Provide technical guidance and lead the integration and seamless end to end processing in collaboration with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT) while,

  • developing solutions to complex problems, as needed, and ensuring that solutions are consistent with organization practices and objectives; and reviewing recommended solutions and decisions with the manager and project leadership.

  • assessing existing environments (applications and infrastructure) for improvements

  • Partner with project management for project and program planning, risk management, dealing with defects and change management during implementation.

  • Define requirements for and drive the implementation and adoption of automation to benefit the system administration team


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or IT

  • Ten years (or eight years with a Master's) of program or project management experience

  • Experience with people management

  • Enterprise system implementation and process optimization experience

  • Experience working in Hyperion financial suite of products, as well as larger industry toolsets for Global finance and accounting platforms, such as SAP, JDE, Microsoft

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a large manufacturing company

  • Certification in Program or Project Management

  • Experience working in an agile environment

  • Knowledge of Amazon and Azure Cloud partners

Additional Talents and General Expectations:

  • Stay current with latest platform features

  • Knowledge of SaaS and vendor hosted systems and implementations, with experience in implementing and supporting Cloud based systems required

  • Vendor management and contract experience.

  • Experience in integration, reporting and database tools, such as APIs, Tableau, Alteryx, SQL

  • Experienced in application design.

  • Experienced in integration capabilities development, such as API/web services and bulk data integration

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills with ability to drive achievement of objectives

  • Expert understanding of system administration procedures while addressing issues with impact beyond own team based on knowledge of related disciplines

  • Ability to understand business needs across functional areas and apply industry trends, products and solutions to solve business problems

  • Strict attention to detail

  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels

  • Ability to work and excel within a fast paced, dynamic, and constantly changing work environment

  • Ability to frequently interacts with customers, and/or functional peer group managers, normally involving matters between cross-functional teams and the company; often leads a cooperative effort among members of a project team

  • Adhere to all EHS rules and requirements and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control
