Edwards Lifesciences Director, Program Management – Smart Factory in Irvine, California

We have an outstanding leadership opportunity to oversee multiple projects in support of the Smart Factory initiative at Edwards Lifesciences. As a Director, Program Management, you will ensure success and attain results through proper: roadmap development & alignment, portfolio management, process standardization, project prioritization & sequencing, resourcing (headcount and investment), planning, execution monitoring, risk management, team development/coaching, communications and extensive stakeholder management. In addition, you will lead/manage a complex portfolio and governance process supporting each Manufacturing Network/Site within the portfolio from conception to completion in collaboration with functional departments to successfully develop and assure implementation, definition of objectives, strategies, actions (tactics) plans, and execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage strategic Manufacturing Network wide portfolio of programs & projects, and partner with other Functional Leaders, Finance, SMEs and PMOs, to ensure results attainment for Smart Factory initiatives.

  • Manage/ Coordinate portfolio’s financial activities, including Strategy, AOP, CAPEX, value tracking, proactive phasing, spend to plan.

  • Manage prioritization and sequencing within and across the Manufacturing Networks/Sites as well as a global integrated project list to ensure the organization is focused on highest priorities to maximize returns with effective capacity management across GSC.

  • Ensure use of standardized/efficient processes, systems, playbooks, DMAIC, Agile, Scrum, Value metrics, and change management.

  • Facilitate regular project review and phase-gate meetings with project and leadership teams.

  • Facilitate the creation and approval of complex business cases within the program and coordinate the sharing of resources among projects including execution against that roadmap.

  • Establish, maintain, and influence program stakeholder relationships, expectations, and communications, both internal and external to the organization.

  • Develop a high-level integrated milestone plan for the program and manage program changes in accordance with the change management plan to control scope, quality, schedule, and cost.

  • Execute program plans (quality, risk, communication, staffing, etc.) and capture and communicate program status and data to maintain accurate and current program information for the use of stakeholders.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in project and program management, including guiding and mentoring project managers.

  • Elevate maturity level specifically in the multiple areas of project management (e.g., governance, resource management, project management, Agile/Scrum knowledge), and lead by demonstrating culture and values.

  • Direct/coach project/program managers/work stream leads with overall responsibility of developing systems, planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities.

  • Develop a robust talent development and succession planning in alignment with functional growth strategies.

  • Coordinate training programs and ensure skill building (PM/Agile/Scrum/Lean Six Sigma training & certification) for targeted groups and provide coaching to ensure proper application certification.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 14 years of hands on experience managing large to midsize projects and/or programs of increasing complexity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous experience in implementing automation equipment alongside MES or other value-added applications (i.e. SPC, ERP, data acquisition capabilities) in optimizing the capabilities of a factory.

  • Supply Chain and Operations experience and implementing a Lean transformation is preferred.

  • Experience in major transformational change program, developing and exercising sound change management methodologies (including extensive training and communication plans).

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills with ability to drive achievement of objectives.

  • Expert understanding and knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to managing multiple projects and charting the course of overall programs (portfolio).

  • Excellent understanding and work experience with project budgets and financial management.

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence change.

  • Experience in facilitating change, including collaboration with management and executive stakeholders.

  • Experience operating within a regulated environment.

  • Proven expertise in usage of MS Office Suite and related project management systems.
